Solutions

One solution for every sector. Hosted in Europe. Owned by you.

Universities running MOOCs. Ministries training public servants. Enterprises onboarding staff. NGOs delivering programmes across a dozen countries. Different missions - one open-source learning platform that adapts to each, without per-learner fees or vendor lock-in.

Four sectors, one platform

Different problems. Same open-source foundation.

We deliver Open edX solutions to four distinct sectors. The platform is the same - the shape of the problem, the procurement language, and the integrations are not. Pick the sector closest to yours.

Check out

Higher Education

MOOCs, blended programmes, and extended campus LMSes — running on infrastructure you own, not licence.

Govt. & Public Sector

Civil servant training and citizen capacity-building, hosted inside your jurisdiction and auditable end-to-end.

Corporate Training

Onboarding, compliance, and continuous learning — with standards-based integration into the tools you already run.

NGOs & academies

Grant-funded programmes where learner numbers are unpredictable and per-learner pricing is a non-starter.

Higher Education

Run a MOOC. Launch a programme. Extend your campus LMS - without licence fees.

Universities, business schools, and research institutes use Open edX to deliver structured online learning at scale. Studio authoring, cohorts, graded assessments, discussion forums, certificates - running on infrastructure the institution owns. We configure, host, and support it so your academic team focuses on courses, not on running Kubernetes.

Check out

Course authoring in Studio

Instructors build courses in Open edX Studio. Content is stored in OLX - version-controllable, exportable, and portable if you ever change provider.

Standards-based integration

LTI 1.3 for plugging in third-party tools. SAML 2.0 and OAuth 2.0 for SSO with your identity provider. REST and GraphQL APIs for custom integrations. No rip-and-replace.

Certificates & credentials

Issue verified certificates on course completion. Export learner records via REST API or xAPI to feed your existing credential or transcript systems.

Scales from seminar to MOOC

The same platform runs a 30-person seminar and a 30,000-learner open course. Horizontal scaling, self-paced and instructor-led modes, no per-learner licensing.

Government & Public Sector

Capacity-building that stays inside your jurisdiction.

Ministries, agencies, and intergovernmental institutions use Open edX for civil servant training, citizen education, and regulatory capacity-building - on infrastructure they can audit and source code they can inspect. Procurement teams get documentation in the format they expect. Data stays in the EU by default.

Check out

EU-hosted by default

Infrastructure in Frankfurt. German jurisdiction. Standard DPA under EU law. On-premise deployment available when your IT policy requires the platform to stay in your data centre.

Accessibility-focused

Targeting WCAG 2.1 AA - screen-reader-friendly, keyboard-navigable, with captioned video workflows. We document known gaps honestly rather than claim blanket compliance.

Multilingual delivery

Open edX ships with UI support for 15+ languages. Per-course language tracks, locale-aware formatting, and translation-ready content for multi-country programmes.

Procurement-ready docs

DPA, technical and organisational measures, sub-processor list, accessibility statement, SLA, and incident response plan - provided on first request, not after three rounds of e-mail.

Corporate Training Providers

Onboarding, compliance, and continuous learning - with data that stays yours.

Enterprises and commercial training providers use Open edX for employee training, customer education, partner enablement, and paid course catalogues. Open standards mean the platform speaks to whichever HR, identity, or content-authoring tools you already run - without proprietary connectors or integration lock-in.

Check out

Open standards, not lock-in

SAML 2.0 and OAuth 2.0 for SSO. SCIM for user provisioning. REST API for enrolment and reporting. Integrate with whichever HRIS or identity system your company runs - we build the bridge.

SCORM, xAPI, and LTI

Import SCORM 1.2 and 2004 content you already own. Emit xAPI statements to your Learning Record Store. Plug in LTI 1.3 content tools your L&D team prefers.

Multi-tenant for extended enterprise

One platform, separate tenants for employees, partners, and paying customers. Independent branding, catalogues, and reporting per tenant - managed from one admin.

Analytics through Aspects

Aspects is the Open edX community's open-source analytics project - we contribute to it. Learner engagement, course completion, and assessment data in Superset dashboards, or exported to your BI warehouse.

NGOs & Academies

Mission-critical learning, without per-learner costs.

Foundations, NGOs, and non-profit academies run programmes where learner volumes are unpredictable and grant budgets are fixed. Per-learner SaaS pricing makes the maths impossible. Open source replaces the licence line item with predictable hosting - so budget stays with the mission, not the vendor.

Check out

No per-learner licensing

Open-source core means no licence fee, regardless of learner count. Hosting and support are predictable. Programmes can scale from 500 to 50,000 learners without re-opening the budget.

Multi-tenant for coalitions

Run a single platform with separate branded instances for each partner organisation. Shared content libraries where it helps, independent data ownership where it matters, joint reporting on top.

Offline-capable mobile learning

Custom iOS and Android apps with offline mode. Learners download course content over Wi-Fi, complete it without connectivity, and sync progress when reconnected - built for patchy networks.

Multilingual delivery

Deliver the same programme in as many languages as you produce content for. UI localised in 15+ languages out of the box - the same platform serving multiple country cohorts.

How we work together

From discovery to deployment.

A timeline that works at your pace.

1

Discovery

We learn your challenge, constraints, and ambitions. An architectural brief — not a sales call.

2

Architecture Design

We design the ecosystem. You review and approve. Your sign-off before a single line of code.

3

Development

We build in agile sprints. You see weekly progress — real demos, not status updates.

4

Content Migration

Your five years of courses don't disappear. They come with you. Zero data loss.

5

Staff Training

Your team learns the platform before learners do. We don't go live until you're confident.

6

Go-Live & Beyond

Launch with full support. We're your long-term partner — not your implementation vendor.

The results speak for themselves.

Frequently asked

Open edX solutions

your questions answered.

Open edX is an open-source learning management system originally created by MIT and Harvard, now stewarded by the non-profit Axim Collaborative. It powers platforms for universities, enterprises, governments, and NGOs worldwide - from small internal training programmes to MOOCs serving hundreds of thousands of learners. Abstract Technology is an Open edX Certified Partner for Europe.

We host Open edX on EU-based infrastructure under German jurisdiction, with a standard DPA included. The platform provides the technical features required for GDPR - user data export, deletion, and audit logging. Actual compliance depends on how each institution configures and operates it, so we deliver a configuration that starts from a GDPR-compliant baseline and document the gaps honestly.

Yes. LMS migration to Open edX is one of the services we deliver most often. Typical timelines are 6-12 weeks depending on course volume, learner history, and the depth of integration with surrounding systems. Courses, enrolments, grade history, and forum content all come across.

We offer three hosting models: Abstract-managed EU cloud hosting, deployment on the client's own cloud account (AWS, GCP, Azure, OVH), and on-premise installation for organisations with strict data residency or network-isolation requirements. You can switch between them later — the platform stays portable.

Yes - native iOS and Android apps with offline learning. Learners download course content over Wi-Fi, complete units without a connection, and progress syncs automatically on reconnect. The app can be white-labelled to your organisation's branding in both app stores.

The Open edX software is free and open source - there are no licence fees. Costs cover hosting, implementation services, customisation, and ongoing support. We do not charge per-learner pricing; our pricing stays predictable regardless of platform growth. See our pricing page or request a quote.

Yes. Abstract Technology is an Open edX Certified Partner for Europe. Our team contributes regularly to the Open edX platform and to the Aspects analytics project - contributions are public on github.com/Abstract-Tech.
